Douglas spent a great period of his life involved with the people and events on Parliament Hill. A Hill commentator for over 45 years, his columns ran in the Toronto Telegram, and later the Toronto Sun - providing his unique perspective as both Parliamentarian and writer. He has also been a regular contributor to Executive Magazine and Legion Magazine.
